The Pennsylvania School Directors Coalition (PSDC) provides a much-needed resource for elected school directors throughout Pennsylvania. PSDC offers several services designed to support school board members in promoting commonsense education policies both locally and statewide, improving academic achievement, and unlocking opportunities for all of Pennsylvania's children.
Local control is a strength of Pennsylvania public education. Decisions affecting our students' education are best decided by the people who care about them most: parents and community members. Our goal is to provide education and services that empower Pennsylvania's locally elected school directors in effectively carrying out their responsibilities to govern the Commonwealth's public school districts.
Our initial services include school director training and professional development through our School Board Boot Camp, networking opportunities for school directors at in-person and virtual events, advocacy, model policy and policy review, and legal services.
We are launching our Boot Camp training sessions in early 2024 to equip newly elected and returning school board members with the knowledge and skills necessary to govern effectively and to succeed in their roles. Sessions are currently planned to address legal basics, financial oversight, curriculum and student achievement, collective bargaining, and superintendent selection and evaluation.
We believe that all school directors, regardless of political viewpoint or ideology, will find PSDC a valuable partner. We want all school directors to feel confident in their role and responsibility to oversee school districts and to advance educational opportunities for Pennsylvania's most precious resource: our children.
